In stark contrast to "My daughter's childhood", "My Childhood" is quite the opposite of happy. The artist, depicted as the child in this painting, is seen monotonous in color.
With a terrified look on his face. Conveying the terror he saw in his childhood as the Chinese government struck fear in every person. However, the artist, as a child, has no way to help.
With a hint of the red scarf all Chinese children wear as a mark. The tear in the picture makes it seem like a picture, a memory. A thorn childhood.
But, to the right of the child, we see an open door. A door to freedom. A door to hope. To a better life. But it is blurry. Faded. Almost dream like. Will the child escape from the horror of his childhood? A piece filled with emotions that has many stories to tell.
